The authors of this volume participate in events organized by Mormon Artists Group, a collective of roughly 50 creative LDS artists in New York City. The organization includes architects, choreographers, composers, filmmakers, historians, novelists, painters, photographers, playwrights, poets, screenwriters, songwriters and sculptors. Established in 1999, the Group has curated exhibitions of LDS artworks, "LDS Photographers;" collaborated on multi-disciplinary new works, "Exquisite Corpse;" published an extensive reference volume of LDS concert music, "LDS Musical Compositions in New York City Library Collections;" published a CD-ROM digital portfolio of artists' works, "MAG-zine;" established the Mormon Artists Group Lending Library; initiated a periodic newsletter, "Virtual Discussion Group" with topics ranging from a debate of the plays by Neil LaBute to a think-tank session regarding religious architecture and design; and promoted local LDS performing artist groups, "The Handcart Ensemble Benefit," with fundraising events for community charities, including auctions and concerts of original works. Shortly after Mormon Artists Group's first event, a group of its writers began quarterly gatherings to read new works aloud. This volume is a product of our meetings and is the Writers Group's first publication. For further information, see the Group's website at MormonArtistsGroup.com |
